What is Stress?
Stress is basically the worry that we feel when dealing with difficult situations or events. Often we feel pressured into achieving certain things and the demands being made of us are greater than what we think we can cope with.
Stress is not always bad, some people actually rely on a certain level of stress to help them focus on accomplishing their goals, however, when it impacts your enjoyment of life or leads to mental health issues like anxiety or depression, it’s important to find healthy ways to manage it.
What Are The Signs And Symptoms Of Stress?
For some reason we often jump straight to workplace stresses when thinking about the causes of stress. We often overlook the ‘everyday life’ events that also have an equally dramatic impact on our health. Things like family or relationship breakdowns, financial problems, health concerns and other traumatic events can all cause fear, uncertainty or anxiousness that result in stress.
It is important to remember that stress is different for each individual, it is subjective, an event that may be extremely stressful for one person may be a minor hiccup for another person.
The symptoms of stress also vary greatly and if not addressed the effects can be detrimental to your physical health and emotional wellbeing. Some common symptoms are headaches, aches, pains, difficulty with concentrating or sleeping, muscle tension, irritably and constant worry. Eventually the long term effects of stress may result in burn out, which is a state of complete mental, physical and emotional exhaustion.
How The Barbershop Offers The Perfect Antidote To Stress
There are many different coping mechanisms for stress and the most popular techniques are all centred around relaxation or separation from the factors that are causing the issues. Exercise, meditation and entertainment are all typical examples however the perfect antidote to stress is a visit the barbershop.
