BEARD GROOMING ADVICE FROM THE BARBER

March 12, 2022

Letting a beard grow unkept can be the start of the demise of a good man. Left unmaintained, a beard will grow wild, disorderly, stringy, fuzzy and make a man look far less than his best. Just as we take good care of the rest of our body, our face and beard must be well cared for and groomed regularly if it too is to remain healthy. Read on for some barbershop advice on how to do just that.

A regular visit to the barbershop for a trim and a line up is a great way to get started when it comes to taming that beast of beard. There is however more to it than just that, especially if you want to step up your grooming game and bring that beard into line properly. A few changes to your morning routine and you will be well on your way.

The facial hair that makes up your beard is much coarser than the hair atop our heads and although it may feel like it’s incredibly tough, it also needs to be shampooed and conditioned regularly. Here at Barber Industries Charlestown we stock a range of washes that have been specifically formulated for beard care. The cleaning and moisturising properties will soften your beard and clean the skin underneath, creating good foundations for a healthy beard.

No matter if your beard is long or short, you should always be applying a quality beard oil after your shower. The bodies natural oils are constantly wicked away and a few drops of beard oil will replenish, moisturise and help to tame your beard. To apply, work the oil between the palms of your hands and then into your beard. A good technique is to start against the grain so you can get right down to the follicles underneath. Then smooth down with the grain and style into the shape you like.

Using a beard comb or beard brush will remove fuzz and tangles from your beard however this brushing provides more than just those obvious benefits. As you brush you exfoliate your face and neck and this removes dead skin from beneath your beard. In turn, this keeps the skin beneath your beard healthy and ‘beard-druff’ free, which is paramount in good grooming.

For those men with longer beards, further control can be achieved with the use of a quality beard balm. This will further moisturise and make your beard look thicker, but more importantly provide extra hold for styling. For best results, look at our products containing natural ingredients like shea butter and beeswax.

A mans beard is something special and should be maintained as such. A beard can not be adopted by women or children and it is something that is truly ours as men, something sacred and to be looked after.
