Westfield Hornsby retailer, Barber Industries, is providing free haircuts every first Tuesday of every month for those in times of difficulty within the local Hornsby community.

The retailer has teamed up with The Salvation Army and The Salvation Army Employment Plus Hornsby on this community outreach initiative.

Barber Industries Manager, Roland, said that the concept for free haircuts came about when he was looking for a way to assist the local community.

“The idea is just to help the community, doing this service for people who need a haircut, and with all the financial stuff going on people can't afford to pay for haircuts,” said Roland.
“So I got the idea to do it, and then I asked Westfield if they can help me, or if they have any idea of what to do. And they said, yes, we can’.”

The Centre Management team of Westfield Hornsby already have an existing relationship long developed with the local Salvation Army and Salvation Army Employment Plus organisations. Due to this, the proposal was taken to those organisations to evaluate whether this outreach initiative would be suited to assisting their communities.

The initiative is now into its third month, and the service will continue for the first Tuesday of every month with coupons provided directly to the Salvation Army and Salvation Army Employment Plus located in Hornsby.

As for the future, Roland said that he is looking to spread the outreach of the initiative towards other organisations, as well as having an extra day a month for free haircuts.

“I already spoke with Westfield about doing free haircuts for people who have cancer, and they said they're going to help me with this as well, they're going to speak with Hornsby Hospitals, so I can bring people who have cancer and do their haircuts for free as well here, so that's in the future,” said Roland.
“And I might be doing extra, not just one day a month, it's going to be maybe, two days a month.”
