OUR NEW HOME AT THE MARRICKVILLE METRO

June 12, 2021
With much anticipation the Marrickville Metro’s Smidmore Street Development has been finalised and is now open for business. The Grand opening on June 10th was rightfully a huge celebration of the new community hub. The distinctive development is said to be inspired by, and created to mirror, the vibrant and unique personalities of the Inner West.

The grand opening festivities saw the community introduced to new retailers while enjoying a sensory exploration through art, music and creative workshops. In an effort to ensure that the new space reflects the artistic, creative and diverse community there are both large-scale and hidden pockets of art that have been commissioned by local artists. Barber Industries has participated with a mural by local artist Alex Lehours incorporated into our barbershop interior.

Making a conscious effort towards sustainability the development has a solar panel initiative that will see 25% of the running energy costs delivered by harnessing clean, renewable energy. In keeping with this sustainability theme, the ribbon that was used to declare the precinct open was even sourced from salvaged materials. At Barber Industries we are taking on the responsibility of our own sustainability initiative and are looking at systems to minimise our impact on the environment.

Our Marrickville Metro Barbershop is the seventeenth instalment of the Barber Industries Concept. To create this exceptionally warm and inviting space, we have taken the tradition, nostalgia and aesthetics of the old world barbershop and blended that with the modern comforts of today’s world. The barbershop interior is heavily comprised of natural materials that are complimented by intricate fittings and antique furnishings. The space has been well considered down the minute details. This presents a barbershop like none other in Sydney.

A word on our newest barbershop from the Barber Industries CEO, Ali Nemar,

The new Smidmore Street development is really unique and we wanted to mirror that with our barbershop, we wanted to create something that the Inner West customer appreciates and deserves. The Marrickville Metro has been at the centre of the community since the 1980’s and we are complimenting that heritage by bringing back ‘The Golden Age Of Barbershops’, we have really pushed the boundaries with design and fit out in our pursuits of achieving that. We have created something special, an inviting and inspiring space for the people of Marrickville.”
