THE LATEST TRENDS IN MEN’S HAIRSTYLES
July 17, 2021
There’s a lot of movement happening in the world of men’s hair. There are some new evolutions and some tweaking of the old classics. If you’re looking for the very latest in hair styling ideas, look no further because we have a team of the top barbers in the industry and have created a guide to the latest hairstyle trends for men.
The Trusty Quiff
The quiff is versatile, easy to wear and relatively quick to style. A quiff is similar to a pompadour in that it features long hair on the top, especially in the front, and shorter hair on the back and sides. The quiff is basically a reverse rooster comb, where the long fringe is pulled up off the face to form a puff or quiff.
The ease of this style is that it is usually worn rough and unbrushed, a matte pomade or texturising powder can be pulled through the hair with fingers to quickly set the look. A few peaks and strands of hair left loose will add to the laid back character of the hairstyle.
Trending now, we see the long hair of the quiff combined with a taper fade or low fade. This is a modern look that works well with a beard and because of it’s casual nature, it stays killer even as the hair grows back.
The Return Of The Mullet
One of the most noticeable trends is the comeback of the mullet. Previously reserved for bogans, rebels and renegades, the mullet is back however now it’s mainstream! Everyone from Australia’s prime time sports stars to seemingly every second kid on the footy field is embracing the style and rocking a mullet as a fashion statement.
Don’t be stuck envisioning the 1990s vintage though, these days the style has many modern adaptions and takes on an ever changing array of forms. Most popular with the youth and young men are the very short versions of the style. We see the older gents being a little more generous with length but all in all the mullet is trending across all variations, except for maybe the classic biker braid from the nape of the neck.
The Burst Fade
First introduced in the 80s, the fade has been around for a long time and to this day it remains one of our most requested haircuts. More often than not it is one of the traditional versions requested however there are some new adoptions becoming quite trendy, specifically the burst fade. Burst fades are a modern evolution of the traditional low or mid fade. Rather than cutting the hair at the neckline, like a traditional fade, it cuts down around the ear in a semi-circular shape. This burst fade is quite versatile and allows for a variety of different lengths at the neckline.
Final Thoughts
In the short term here in Australia, the trends in men’s hairstyles will surely continue to be driven more by our sporting heroes and piers than the likes of Hollywood celebrities. We are quite an alternative bunch really and it’s good to see that the latest trends are progressive, relaxed and easy going, just like us.
