UPPERCUT DELUXE - AN AUSTRALIAN SUCCESS STORY

When styling in the barbershop we use products from a wide range of brands, one of our outright favourites and ’go to’ ranges is that of Uppercut Deluxe. We are big fans and we believe that they have shown a commitment to creating the highest quality products while remaining competitively priced. Childhood friends Luke Newman and Steve Purcell are the creative brains behind the outfit.
They share a passion for barbering and also a love of surf & skate.
The style and culture that’s associated with the surf/skate scene really shines through in the brand and this gives it some autonomy and separation in the marketplace.
The namesake of the brand stems from Newman’s Grandfather Willy OShea. He was an old boxer in the Jimmy Sharman boxing troupe that toured rural Australia during the years of the great depression. Willy’s nickname ‘Uppercut’ makes for a fitting brand name and his life story echo’s through in the brands motto ”A hard beginning maketh a good ending”.
