STYLING GUIDE FOR MEN - MODERN DAY POMPADOUR WITH HARD PART

November 26, 2022

The pompadour is a timeless and classical men’s hairstyle. In days gone by it was synonymous with rockabilly characters and in it’s original form this often still rings true to this day. The modern day pompadour is generally styled a little looser and is worn by a wider range of men. In today’s article we take a better look at this men’s hairstyle, how to get the haircut and how to style it.

Getting Started With The Modern Day Pompadour

The first thing to outline about this hairstyle is that involves some length up top to get started. So first and foremost it is necessary to grow the length required to make the hairstyle possible. If you like the idea of trying the pompadour hairstyle but are unsure if you have the hair to pull it off, get in and talk to our barbers, they can guide you down the right path and cut your hair into a style that will lay the foundations of a nice high pomp.

What To Ask Your Barber To get This Hairstyle

Tell the barber that your hairstyle goal is a pompadour with a hard part.

The hard part is a definitive parting that will be cut into the style with a trimmer and razor blade.

From here you must decide whether you’d like the back and sides tapered in length from top to bottom (traditional) or whether you’d like a fade on the sides (contemporary). For a truely modern pompadour you will opt for a ‘low skin fade’ on the back and sides.

Styling the Modern Day Pompadour At Home

Traditionally the pompadour was always styled sleek and shiny with a greasy pomade. These days the style is also quite often worn a little less structured and with a matte finish.

The pompadour is all about height and volume and this is the objective when styling.

To start, apply a pre-styler like Uppercut Deluxe Foam Tonic and then use a blowdryer and quiff roller to build up volume. Follow this with a dusting of styling powder and then comb with a wide toothed comb. Finish the styling with a matte styling product to perfect the look.

For a more traditional approach, finish with a high shine pomade. Use a dollop the size of a two dollar coin and rub between the palms of the hands to coat them. Distribute the pomade through the hair with the fingers and palms from root to tip. Use a roller or comb to structure and refine the style.
